Baking Beans are
used for "baking blind".
The liquid fillings
of flans and tarts stop the pastry base
cooking crisply. This is overcome by baking the
pastry case empty before putting in the filling.
Made from fired pottery
clay, they are fully reusable and hygienic and only
need washing in warm to keep them for a lifetime.
The useful storage tub
holds 500g, which is enough to blind bake a 10"
flan.
